Ok so I have started working with horses, and am truly fascinated by their energy. It is so calming and powerful. I love working with dogs and cats so I thought this would be very similar just a bigger client. I was so wrong… I am not sure if it is because horses are so big or may because they are prey and not predator that the energy is so different. When a horse goes into a state of relaxation or calm their head drops their eyes get soft and the world around them becomes very peaceful. Where I work we have a therapeutic riding program and I have heard so many stories about how children who were not supposed to speak would say their first words to one of our horses or how autistic children would actually focus on a horse and really “see them” I always believed the stories and even met some of the children. I am now really beginning to understand first hand their power. I was at Hocking College this weekend taking my first equine acupressure class. It was great to be around so many horses and so many people wanting to work with and help them. We had our first demo and right away you could tell that the horse was very skeptical. One look said it all, but the instructor asked permission and you could see the horse (his name was Bubba) think about it and give her permission with reservations but permission none the less. She went slowly and just opened up his association points on the left side as his right was definitely sore. He was ok with that and relaxed a bit. Then she was just talking to the class about his right side and he reacted. Bubba was so energetically sensitive that he picked up on her intent which was amazing. He did let her work on him a bit and really had some good results. The next day we his coat looked better it were shiny and fuller. We got to work on him and that was eye opening. I had a partner so we worked together but each of us had a side to work on. I got the left side which was easier as he was far more open to touch and energy on that side. My partner had her work cut out of her. We went to his stall and got him I put on the harness which is a skill I am getting better at… Then we took him out and watched him walk. His gait was really stiff and his right back leg was dragging a bit. He definitely had some discomfort back there. His eyes we alert although he looked a little sad and when he stood he was putting most of his weight on his left hind leg. So I started on his left side as that seemed like a good idea as they say in TCM don’t spank they crying baby and the right side was definitely that. So opened that up and he was ok we tried the right side and I was holding his lead and just watching his eyes. My partner started a his neck and was gently working her way down his back and the minute she got to his hip his eyes got big and he looked at here don’t even think about it. It was so strong he might as well have spoken it out loud. I was intrigued at how communicative he was. She lightened up a bit and worked above his body but he still moved away. So we went back to the other side to see if we could work through some his pain on the right sis de by working the left. I was checking his association points and there was a spot on him right around GB 25 that smelled really sweet so I just put my hand there and all of a sudden he chewed a bit and sighed so I kept my hand there to see what would happen. It was pretty interesting his eyes got really soft and started to close and then he slowly dropped his head and you could just feel him relaxing he was almost in a trance like state. His breathing changed and I became really relaxed and everything around us just came to a halt it was like he formed a peaceful and protective bubble around us. That is when it clicked for me I now get why these children respond so well to horses even though they are one thousand pound giants. With their incredible they create a safe calm and wonderful space that you could stay in for a very long time. I held that point for a while until Bubba kind of blinked and came back and moved a bit and told me that was good with that one and to move on to the next one…
