Really interesting study on low back pain and disc ssues.

If you have a breed that tends to have these problems or a senior pet with low back or disc issues this may help.

Acupuncture reduces lower back pain and disc degeneration. A new study demonstrates that electroacupuncture applied to specific acupuncture points on the back stimulates beneficial biochemical bodily responses that benefit the spine. Researchers successfully measured scientifically repeatable chemical responses to acupuncture that suppress intervertebral disc degeneration.

Pain and degeneration of the spine are created, in part, by an inflammatory cascade of two proteins in the lumbar discs: increased matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13), decreased tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) proteins. The sham acupuncture group did not influence protein expression. However, the true Jiaji (Huatoujiaji) acupuncture group successfully reduced MMP-13 and upregulated TIMP-1 levels. The changes were clinically significant and the researchers note that increases in TIMP-1 are “remarkably higher” when electroacupuncture is applied.

Associations points were used for this as was LI4 with good results .

If your dog does have low back issues check with your vet first ost and then see if acupuncture acupressure should be added to your pets wellness plan.  Read the full study below and try LI4  happy pointing

LI4 is on the inside of the dew claw or if there is not a dew claw on the bump on the inside of the front paw where a dew claw would be. Jjust press on it lightly for a bit or lightly move your fingers in a circular motion, if your pup will tolerate that.  LI4  it is a great point for  immune issues and allergies,  it is also a great point to alleviate pain in the shoulder, elbow and tarsals; and good for  low back and disc issues.
